The western section of the Nenggao Crossing National Trail was severely damaged by Typhoons Tosurui, Kanu, and Kemi, as well as the 0403 Hualien Earthquake. The facilities along the trail were severely damaged. According to the on-site survey conducted by our branch, one bridge was damaged, two bridges were destroyed, six plank roads were destroyed, and 0-1K, 3.2-4K, 6K, and 10K trails were damaged. The upper and lower slopes of 5 locations have collapsed and are seriously unstable, and there are still continuous collapse and rockfall. In particular, the 0.3K upper slope is an extremely unstable new collapse site. It continues to collapse even after it was opened. The collapse of the 0.5K, 0.6K, and 0.8K upper slopes has also continued to expand. Tension cracks have occurred in the roadbed, making it extremely unstable. There is a possibility of roadbed loss and trail interruption at any time. Therefore, since April 13, 2013, 0-3K has been closed. Hikers are asked to take the Yuntian Temple entrance route instead. It has been more than a year since then. The route is about 4.5 kilometers long, 1.5 kilometers longer than the original main route, and the slope is steeper, so it takes 1.5-2 hours longer to walk.

The Nantou Branch Office considered that the western section of the Nenggao Crossing National Trail from 0 to 1K is geologically fragmented and often causes landslides due to extreme climate. Therefore, it will avoid unstable areas with collapse and falling rocks and replace the original main line from 0 to 1K with the Yuntian Temple entrance route with relatively stable geology. The longitudinal slope will be improved and the width will be appropriately increased to reduce walking time and reduce walking difficulty. It is estimated that the walking time will be reduced by about 1 hour compared to the original Yuntian Temple route before the renovation. The collapse-prone section of the Nenggao Crossing main line from 3K to 13.2K will be rebuilt to maintain the smooth operation of the entire line. According to the initial estimate of the construction period, the suspension of opening will be extended to December 31 , 2014. The subsequent opening time will be announced based on the progress of the project . During the construction period of the western section of the Nenggao Crossing National Trail, Tianchi Mountain Resort will also be temporarily closed.
