Legal Basis: Article 13 of the National Park Act; Item 14 of the Prohibited Activities within Taroko National Park; and Article 8 of the Guidelines for Applying for Entry Permits to the Ecological Protection Area of Taroko National Park.

Announcement:
1. The Qilai
Mountain Cabin operated by this Office will begin trial operations and open for public accommodation starting August 21, 2026 (Friday).
(1) Application method:
Please apply online through the Hike Smart Taiwan Service  https://hike.taiwan.gov.tw/en/web_index.aspx.
The online application system is available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
(2) Application period:
Applications will open at 12:00 noon on August 17, 2026 (Monday). From 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the same day, applications for entry to routes
including the Qilai Main Peak/North Peak Route, Qilai Range, Qilai East Ridge, Qilai North Peak–Pingfeng Mountain Route, and other routes
within the Qilai Mountain area will be temporarily suspended due to system database integration. 
(3) Inquiry function:
After successfully submitting an application through the system, applicants may use the “Campsite and Bed Availability” function and select “Taroko Mountain Cabin Information” to check the desired campsite and date. The system will display accommodation status, including the number of approved applicants, applicants pending review, remaining vacancies, the designated trip leader, and other relevant information. Bed numbers will be displayed in the “Campsite and Bed” section when the entry permit is printed or downloaded.
(4) For groups that had already applied to camp at the “Qilai Mountain Cabin Campsite” before August 17, 2026, the system will allocate beds after the Cabinopens on August 21 according to the order in which applications were submitted. Except for beds reserved for official use as announced by this Office, 40 beds per day will generally be made available. Groups that do not receive beds because the cabin is fully booked may camp within the permitted camping area.
(5) Permitted camping area:
Camping is permitted only on existing campsites along both sides of the trail between the junction of the Qilai Main Peak/North Peak ridge trail at approximately 6.3 km and the former Qilai Mountain Cabin at approximately 6.6 km. The unauthorized creation of new campsites and camping in passageways around the mountain cabin are strictly prohibited, in order to avoid obstructing access. Violators will be subject to penalties in accordance with relevant regulations.

2. To maintain the quality of accommodation and protect personal privacy, all publicly accessible indoor areas of the mountain cabin may not be entered or
used by persons who have not been approved for accommodation on that day, including support staff and logistical personnel. Your cooperation is appreciated. 

3. The hike from the Qilai trailhead to Qilai Mountain Cabin takes approximately 6–7 hours on foot, with a total accumulated ascent and descent of approximately
1,500 meters. Attempting to reach the cabin in a single day carries a relatively high risk of altitude-related illness, physical exhaustion, and other hazards. Hikers are advised to carefully assess their physical condition and abilities and not to force themselves to continue the ascent. 

4.Persons granted permission to enter and exit the Ecological Protection Area of this Office must complete their hiking activity in accordance with the approved dates and itinerary. Except in cases where emergency measures are necessary to avoid imminent danger, unauthorized changes to the approved route, itinerary, or camping location are prohibited. It is also prohibited to make an unscheduled emergency stay or otherwise take shelter at Qilai Mountain Cabinor any other mountain cabin operated by this Office.

5.Violators will be subject to a fine of NT$3,000 pursuant to Item 14 of the Prohibited Activities within Taroko National Park, and, in addition, may be subject to a six-month suspension from obtaining entry permission pursuant to Article 8 of the Guidelines for Applying for Entry Permits to the Ecological Protection Area of Taroko
National Park.  Thank you for your cooperation.
