Taroko National Park Partially Reopens After Earthquake

Taroko National Park in Taiwan partially reopened on April 12, 2024, after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the island on April 3. The earthquake caused significant damage to the park's infrastructure, including roads, trails, and visitor facilities.

The following areas of the park are open:

Hehuan Mountain Area (including Hehuan Main Peak, Xiaoqilai, and Hehuan Northwest Peak trails, MT. Shimen Trail) (4/12)

Qilai Mountain Area (excluding Qilai East Ridge) (4/16)

Nanhu Mountain Area (Nanhu Main Peak Trail only) (4/16)

Pingfeng Mountain (4/16)

Mt. Shuan (4/16)

 

The following visitor facilities are also open:

Xiaofengkou (4/12)

Dayuling (4/12)

 

The park urges visitors to exercise caution and avoid entering damaged areas.
